Communications Director

I became a journalist to tell the stories of people who were often ignored, overlooked or not even considered. That work has taken me from my hometown in rural Georgia to newspapers in California, New York and, since 2004, Florida. As a reporter, I covered communities, cops, faith, bad weather and big business. I’ve also been an editor and an editorial writer. In 2016, I left the newsroom to become the Times’ communications director, a leap that plunged me into the business side of media. Improbably, the pandemic brought me back to news, as an adjunct member of the editorial board. My perspective is shaped by every person I encounter and every experience I have and observe. Most weekends are spent in my car, driving my children to baseball fields, dance practice or church. I unwind by singing, reading and watching HGTV. Reach out to me. I’ll reach back.
