Designer

Born in Birmingham, Ala., I grew up in the Florida Panhandle, not far from Eglin Air Force Base, where a young Hunter S. Thompson was stationed for the duration of his tumultuous military career. For my first career, I was a restaurant and retail manager for about 10 years in Destin, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Philadelphia. In the mid-90s, I returned to Pensacola to earn my journalism degree at the University of West Florida. I was editor of the school paper, The Voyager. I also wrote lots of stories, took photos, designed and edited the pages and delivered 4,000 copies around the campus each week. Good times. I worked at the Tampa Tribune for 16 years, where I was in charge of design and copy editing. I joined the Times in Oct. 2017 as a designer and copy editor, working on the main news sections and our regional products. I've lived in St. Pete near the Trop since 2005, with my wife, Dorothy, and Cindy, Darla and Simon, our seriously spoiled cats.
