I grew up in a small town in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, graduated from Wake Forest University, and am now a politics reporter for Tampa Bay Times, covering elections, democracy and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. I’ve been an economic development reporter and the Times’ pop music and entertainment critic, but it’s hard to ignore today the role politics and our elected leaders play in our everyday lives.
