TAMPA — Fans of a good rooftop bar, raise your hand.

A new contender opens later this month when Casa Cami, a new Mexican restaurant and rooftop bar, marks its launch at the Current Hotel.

The spot from the busy folks behind Oxford Exchange and Predalina opens March 19, and will occupy the 10th floor of the Rocky Point hotel, boasting sweeping views of Tampa Bay — perfect for tipping back a margarita at sunset.

It’s the latest in a series of projects from the Oxford Commons group, helmed by siblings Blake Casper and Allison Casper Adams. Last July, they opened Predalina, an upscale Mediterranean restaurant at Tampa’s Water Street development, and this fall the team will debut the revamped (and relocated) Mad Dogs & Englishmen pub in South Tampa.

But right now, the spotlight is on Casa Cami.

The rooftop space at the Current Hotel, which is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, isn’t new: The hotel first opened in 2019 and was purchased by the Oxford Commons group in 2021. Since then, the hotel has been overseen by a management group and, until now, amenities included a rooftop bar and the downstairs restaurant Julian.

Casa Cami signals the group’s gradual foray into the food and beverage program at the hotel. Within the next year or two, it’s likely they’ll also make their mark on Julian and the hotel’s lobby bar, said Jess Anderson, the company’s director of business development.

Upstairs, the bar’s renovation into a full-scale restaurant included knocking out two hotel rooms to create a kitchen. Executive chef Alex Hoaks is helming the restaurant and was formerly the executive chef at St. Petersburg’s The Library, another Oxford Commons spot.

The menu, largely inspired by Allison Casper Adams and her husband Robby’s affinity for Mexican cuisine, begins with small snacks like guacamole with cotija cheese ($15), queso laced with guajillo chiles ($14) and tacos ($15-$20, for three). A list of shareable starters includes dishes like a hamachi ceviche with cucumber and toasted sesame ($22), a grilled shrimp roll with avocado, jicama and mezcal shoyu ($20) and adobo chicken flautas with queso fresco, pickled onions and an avocado crema ($17).

Larger, entree-style plates include a green chili chicken with salsa verde and sweet plantain hash ($28) and a barbacoa short rib fajita with cippolini onions, blistered shishitos, piquillo peppers and pistachio salsa macha ($36).

At the bar, craft cocktails and an extensive agave spirit selection will pair with an abbreviated bar food menu featuring small bites and snacks. A weekend brunch includes dishes like a chorizo Benedict with poached eggs and guajillo queso on English muffins and crispy potatoes ($20) and chilaquiles with queso fresco, sunny side-up eggs, pickled onions, avocado and a cumin-lime crema ($22).
