Gibbs High holds pep rally to celebrate state basketball championship

The Gladiator boys won the school’s first basketball title since 1969 and fifth overall on Saturday in Lakeland.

Gibbs High School players and coaches were recognized during a pep rally Monday to celebrate their state basketball title. The Gladiators clinched the Class 4A championship with a 49-43 win over Jacksonville Andrew Jackson on Saturday in Lakeland.

It’s Gibbs’ fifth basketball title and the first since 1969. Coach Larry Murphy highlighted the team’s journey this season as he introduced each player to a full gymnasium that included cheerleaders, band members, and school and district leaders.
